cant import a pdf

I purchased this program to import a pdf to then be able to record a lecture and write notes on the different pages in the pdf during a university lecture.
The import feature did not allow me to select a pdf at all. When I dragged and dropped the pdf into the program it embedded the pdf but only as small window where you could scroll through the pdf to view it but not type on it.
If you can fix this issue, this program will be awesome. If not, I just paid good money for a program I cannot use.
